How This YouTube Shorts Channel Grew to Millions of Views

how to grow a youtube shorts channel to millions of views

This is probably the weirdest interview you will ever see, but it truly IS an interview. It just began in email form, and I used my weird style to turn into an AI-driven interview for this video.

Coming up with the LARRY-loves-Chris storyline was contingent upon Chris giving it the OK … I would never do that sort of thing without the subject’s consent.

But it turns out that I think Chris has a sense of humor that is similar to mine, and he seemed really happy with how this video came out!

This was a pretty fun video to make because I got to invent two new AI characters.

This is a good video for anyone who is trying to grow a YouTube Shorts channel.

I think a lot of people have this perception that YouTube Shorts channels automatically gain millions of views and legions of subscribers, but that’s definitely not the case.

Chris’ story proves that hard work pays off. As for whether AI could produce the same results, it’s really hard to say. But I do honestly believe that the cookie-cutter feel of any kind of mass-produced media is going to limit how well it’s received.

Below is my video script.

Interview with FactsRus

How FACTS R US Built a YouTube Shorts Juggernaut

Intro

FRU vs. opponents battle

Facts R Us is totally killing it in the YouTube shorts game. To be clear, there are definitely channels that are performing at a similar level in other shorts niches, but when it comes to this particular variety of YouTube shorts, Facts R Us is dominating despite having a relatively small subscriber base, and we’re about to find out why.

— So you’re just going to sit here and read the email then? That sounds exciting

Not quite, but ok let’s be transparent about what’s going on here. So last week while I was doing research for a future video, I came across Facts R Us, did some digging, and I contacted the owner via email.

And as it turns out, Chris, the owner of that channel was really open to telling his story of how he started from zero and worked his way up to where he is now.

So instead of just sitting here and reading our email exchange, we’re going to present Chris’ story as an interview

— But a fake interview

Let’s call it slightly dramatized. But I want to stress that this is NOT a skit. This is the real story of Facts R Us, as told by Chris, the owner of the channel and creator of all those facts videos.

Think of this interview like you would any other interview with a real person, because that’s essentially what this is, except maybe a little weirder.

— More like a lot weirder

Now before we get going, I just want to ask you to please subscribe, like this video, tattoo Larry’s name across your chest

— or make it a tramp stamp

build a youtube shorts channel piczoid ai

Sure, or that. NOW, let’s find out how Facts R Us did what tons of other shorts channels are currently trying and failing to do, which is make money with YouTube shorts.

Chris! Hi, thanks so much for interrupting your lavish tropical vacation to be with us today.

— Sure no problem, Michael.

— Well hello there, tiger

— Hello Larry, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m really excited about this interview

— You didn’t tell me fake Chris was such a dreamboat

(give Larry awkward look) So Chris, let’s jump right in and find out what everyone wants to—

— I got this. Get lost

This isn’t how it’s supposed to go—

— Hey handsome, I love that suit and your big, round head

And you are looking quite lovely yourself, mi amor

— Oh yeah talk dirty to me in Spanish

LARRY! INTERVIEW.

— Ugh. Fine. So, stud,

  • 1. When you make your videos, how much of the work is done by AI? I assume we’re talking … 99? 100%?

Actually, zero percent.

When I started my channel, AI wasn’t as prevalent as it is today.  The Make Money YouTubers were definitely pumping out ridiculous videos just like they do now, but instead of titles like, “MAKE 10000000 (10 million) SHORTS IN 5MIN WITH AI” they were more like, “CREATE EVERGREEN CONTENT THAT WILL GET VIEWS FOREVER AND MAKE YOU TONS OF MONEY!”

LOL. So they obviously weren’t using AI but it was basically the same shtick

— I’d like to see your schtick

You’re so bad! LOL LOL LOL

(me rolling my eyes)

Anyway, I was very intrigued, and after seeing the socialblade earnings – I jumped right in!!  AI videos didn’t start popping up until a couple months after I had already started, but at that point, instead of learning the AI method, I just stuck with what I was already doing.  Especially bc I don’t use just 1 editing app….I use SEVERAL!

Facts R Us posted its very first short in January of 2023, and even though AI has been around for years now, Chris is right: AI mania didn’t really start to pick up steam on YouTube until maybe February or March at the earliest.

  • 2. So hot stuff, when you started your YouTube shorts channel, did you really believe that you were going to be making $25,000 per month?

YES!!  I TOTALLY BELIEVED IT!!  I mean, I saw with my own 2 eyes the so-called socialblade earnings and had NO CLUE that shorts earned such a low cpm.

— You have two eyes. Nice. Michael only has one lol

I’m sorry what?

— Nothing, please continue

Ok well even if I had known that shorts paid less, I NEVER would have thought it’d be less than 25 cents, which is the smaller end of the socialblade default setting. I just always figured if my view counts were high enough, even only a quarter would yield great passive earnings!

  • 3. And now that you know that 1,000 shorts views pays pennies rather than dollars, do you think it was worth it? Also, have you ever been with a robot before?

No comment on the robot thing LOL, but as far as all my work being worth it … Well, yes and no. I wouldn’t have poured hours upon hours of time into creating these videos if I had originally know the cpm was pennies.  People think these videos only take a few min to make and that’s just plain WRONG!  I mean, I guess you could make them in a few min but I never had any success doing that.  Mine take me anywhere from 30min to 60min and I publish FIVE A DAY and have never once missed a day!  I also go a step further and try to match the music beats with the transitions which can be pretty time consuming.

— I love how passionate you are about your work. Michael’s biggest passion is sitting at restaurants and eating what’s left on other people’s plates when they get up to leave.

He really does that?

— Who cares. So you’ve explained why building your shorts channel kind of wasn’t worth it, but you were about say why it also WAS worth doing

Right, well my channel recently got monetized by YouTube, so I’m finally earning some money from my work! I haven’t been earning for very long, but the rpms I’m getting range from 4 cents up to sometimes as high as 14 cents. I’m already making good money right off the bat, but if I can grow my channel to hundreds of thousands of subs, my view counts will exponentially grow as well, at which point I’ll be raking it in, so to speak.

— I’m so inspired by your success. I’ve never met a man before who isn’t a total and complete failure

Yeah I’m kind of a big deal now LOL LOL LOL

— I want to have your baby

Nice

  • 4. So, handsome, on average, about how many hours per day or per week did you put in to get to where you are now?

I’d say I spend about 4-5 hours PER DAY on my channel.  Again, I post 5 per day and just recently starting dipping my toes in longer form content now that we can link related videos to our shorts!  My plan is to create 1 long form a week, and every short that I publish that particular week will direct viewers to the long form. In the few weeks that I’ve been doing this, my long form videos have approx 5k each and more and more everyday!

It works out bc I own a seasonal food truck that’s only open 4-5 months of the year which leaves me LOTS of downtime in my off seasons!  My kids are also in school so I have all morning/afternoon to do my thing while I’m home alone!!

— Food trucks get me so hot

You and me both

  • 5. Can you describe your “road to monetization”? Like how many videos did you have to post (and how often) before you began to see big view counts?

Believe it or not, I was getting decent traction right from the start!  Most of my shorts were averaging 500-2k views.

— When Michael posts a short video, he averages about 10

thousand?

— No, just 10

Yikes. So getting back to how I made it to monetization, my channel only really took off approx 2 months ago when my first short went viral!  It happened on a short that I had posted months earlier and ALLLLL of my backlog of videos also took off at that point!  So I’d say I was getting “decent” traction 500-3000 views per video for approx 8mths (occasionally, a few would reach the 10k level which only motivated me to push harder) and than after that 1 short went viral – the rest of my catalog followed!!!  And I’ve been on the same EXACT posting schedule since I started!  Aside from a few minor tweaks here and there, it’s always been 5 per day!  4 in the am/afternoon and 1 around 7pm ish.

  • 6. So Chris, if you had to do me all over again

(ME) IT, Larry, if you had to do IT

— That’s what I said, you turd! If you had to it all over again, would you?

Would I do it again?  YES, DEFF!!  All my long hours and hard work are FINALLY paying off.

One last question for my new lover.

– 7. What would you tell someone who is currently thinking of mass producing hundreds of videos, long or short, with AI?

I’d tell them to be very careful!  For instance, I checked out your channel and LOVE your content!  Seriously, it’s awesome!!

(ME) Thanks Chris, that’s really nice of you to say

— Beat it, loser

I think you’re doing it the right way where you’re using Ai as a “bonus” to compliment your actual self!  I’ve heard horror stories about creators SOLELY using Ai and getting demonitized, strikes and/or flat out being denied for ypp.

— Ok interview’s over, take me to poundtown big boy

— GF: Christopher, you are so dead

— oh crap

— God I hate men

— I’ve been waiting for you at Waffle House like an idiot, and you’re over here in your sex cabana

— Baby I can explain, it’s not what it looks like,

— GF: I know a prostitute when I see one

— She was just interviewing me, I swear

— Oh I’m sure she was … WITH HER MOUTH

— Well that’s how interviews work, so …

— When we get home I am going to

— Uh, I’m gonna go now

———————————-

Ok, as promised, that was weird.

We’ll talk briefly about the interview in just a second, but first I want to thank Chris for sharing his story before his wife showed up to murder him, and there is a link to Facts R Us in the description in case you’d like to give his YouTube Shorts channel a visit.

So here’s what we learned from our talk (email) with Chris.

  • His videos are NOT made with AI
  • He puts time and effort into making his YouTube shorts
  • He posts 5 shorts PER DAY every day

And yes he had one of his videos go viral, but that’s a very recent development. Before that happened, Chris had already published somewhere around 1,000 shorts.

— And he did all that with a psychotic robot woman screaming at him NONSTOP

Yes that sounds like it would be a challenge. So the big question is: could Chris have achieved the same level of success by mass producing hundreds of YouTube Shorts in a matter of minutes and then posting them a few at a time?

This question is hypothetical, so of course we can’t possibly know the answer. But I’m gonna go with No, and here’s why.

— It’s because all men are pigs

Ok Larry’s perspective here might be a bit skewed, but when Chris makes his YouTube shorts, he’s making decisions that he believes will improve the final product, and those decisions might vary from video to video. And this isn’t because Chris is some YouTube mastermind, it’s simply because he’s a human, and that’s what humans tend to do.

— If she divorces him, does she get half of the Youtube channel?

It depends on whether they live in a community property state.

Anyway, when you mass produce something, every decision is the same (you mean parameter) yes, thank you, and every final product is essentially the same.

And I think viewers recognize the difference, and more importantly, it’s also possible that YouTube’s algorithm recognizes the difference. I don’t work for YouTube, but that seems entirely plausible.

— In other words, people are better content creators than machines are

Right, and higher quality content means more viewer satisfaction, and that in turn leads to the YouTube algorithm showering you with views, and eventually money.

So that’s my take on it. What do you think? Please leave your thoughts in the comments below

— Also leave a comment if you think I should go unplug Chris’ psycho wife and claim him as my trophy husband

Since you tried to steal my man, I’m gonna go rock Michael’s world

— Ok

Why aren’t you mad? I’m about to get with your man

— You think Michael is MY MAN? LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Stop it

— LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Stop laughing

— LOL LOL LOL LOL

You’re a jerk

We’re going to show you how to make 10,000 YouTube shorts in just 30 seconds!

— Do you ever get tired of being an idiot?

Obviously I’m kidding, we are not going to be making 10,000 shorts. However, we do know someone who has actually made over ONE thousand shorts and counting.

— In 8 minutes?

Well no, it took slightly longer than that. But the owner of FACTS R US has done what thousands of people are currently trying, and failing, to do, which is get monetized with YouTube shorts and start making money.

— And incidentally, in the past month, FACTS R US has gotten more views than the celebrated Daily Facts Worth which, as we all know, is not earning any YouTube ad revenue.

So Chris, the creator of FACTS R US, has graciously agreed to put his lavish tropical vacation on pause so that he can join us and share his story of how he built one of the fastest growing Shorts channels on YouTube.

— Seriously? He sent you an email and now he’s live via satellite?

YES, LARRY, that’s exactly what’s happening.
